China's ambassador tells Nairobi Trust Summit that trust is the prerequisite for cooperation

China's Ambassador to Kenya, Guo Haiyan, presented President Xi Jinping's four global initiatives at a high-level panel of the Trust Summit in Nairobi, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya said on 23 October 2026.

The summit ran from 21 to 23 October. Kenya's Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and the Executive Office of the President hosted it, the embassy said. Around 500 political leaders, representatives of international and regional organisations, and representatives from various sectors attended. Guo was invited to the panel "Trust Beyond Borders".

The four initiatives she introduced are the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative. She also set out four principles on the constructive participation of relevant parties in resolving African hotspot issues.

Guo said the four initiatives complement and reinforce each other and form a strategic framework for building a community with a shared future for humanity, helping to bridge the trust deficit.

Trust is the prerequisite for cooperation and also the key to countries working together to address common challenges, she said.

China is ready to work with African countries to build trust through common development, common security, mutual learning among civilisations and fair and just global governance, Guo said. She added that China is committed to true multilateralism, to consolidating trust beyond borders and to jointly creating a more peaceful, secure, prosperous and better world.
