Kenyan public schools may not charge tuition; heads say capitation is arriving short
Kenyan public secondary schools received less capitation per learner in Terms 1 and 2 than the 50:30:20 schedule provides, figures from the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association show, the Daily Nation reported on 17 October 2026. The Basic Education Act bars public schools from charging tuition, and other charges need the Education Cabinet Secretary's approval.
