Chinese man, Vietnamese woman found dead with suspected gunshot wounds in Nairobi flat

A Chinese man and a Vietnamese woman were found dead with suspected gunshot wounds in an apartment on Chania Avenue in Kilimani, Nairobi, on 13 October, The Star reported on 14 October. The Kenyan daily named them as Xu Zhiyu and Nguyen Hong Ngoc.

According to The Star, a manager at the apartment reported hearing gunshots from apartment A506 at about 10 a.m. The door was locked from inside, and management opened it with a spare key. Capital FM, a Kenyan broadcaster, reported that officers found the two bodies seated side by side on a mattress in the sitting room.

The Star and Kahawatungu, a Kenyan news site, reported that the two lived together.

The Star reported that a pistol and a handwritten note suspected to be a suicide note were recovered.

Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud said the note was under analysis as part of the investigation, The Star reported. "We do not know what transpired leading to the incident, but experts are working on the issue," he said, as quoted by The Star.

The Star reported that police suspect a possible suicide pact. Capital FM described the suicide-pact suspicion as "an unconfirmed theory", and Nairobi News, a Kenyan news site, reported that the circumstances were not yet conclusively established.

Police are also investigating the motive and who owned the firearm, according to Kahawatungu. The bodies were taken to Chiromo Funeral Parlour to await postmortem examinations, The Star reported.
