The World Bank has pledged continued support for Tanzania's strategic development projects, after its Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Dr Ndiamé Diop, met Tanzania's Finance Minister, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, in Bangkok, Thailand, the Daily News reported on 13 October 2026.

The paper said the two met on the sidelines of the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings, which run in Bangkok from 12 to 18 October.

According to the Daily News, the priority areas include energy, education, railway development, support for vulnerable households through the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF), human capital development and regional projects.

The paper said Omar named projects including the Dar es Salaam Port, the Central Railway (MGR), the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and energy projects connecting the national grid with Zambia.

Omar also said Tanzania had completed its existing programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and was assessing its financing needs before entering any new arrangement, according to the Daily News.

The paper said Tanzania received about US$1.7 billion in IMF financing between 2022 and 2026, including about US$1.063 billion under the Extended Credit Facility and US$636.5 million under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.
