About the event

Afrotellers Conference 2026 gathers 200+ delegates from Afrika and the diaspora under the theme 'Narrative Sovereignty in the Age of AI and Shifting Global Power'. Its three tracks are 'AI, Algorithmic Colonialism & Narrative Futures', 'From Practice to Policy and Policy to Practice' and 'Cultural Economy & Sustainability of Afrikan Narratives'.

The programme adds paper presentations (a first-ever academic track), a showcase of storytelling works with exhibitions and screenings, and a Mombasa heritage journey through Old Town, Fort Jesus and a dhow sunset cruise on the Indian Ocean. The Star reported on 16 October an Afrotellers Market for creatives and entrepreneurs, and an inaugural Afrotellers Festival with local partners including Swahili Pot FM.
