President William Ruto said he will open Phase One of the Rironi–Mau Summit highway in April 2027, ahead of the June 2027 date set at launch, Capital FM and Kenyans.co.ke reported on 11 October 2026.
On 7 October 2026, tarmac was being laid on the Rironi–Naivasha road in Kenya, The Star reported. Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir said on 9 September that the dualling would be finished by 30 October.
On 6 October 2026, the Kenya National Highways Authority said it had set up a Grievance Redress Mechanism for the Rironi–Gilgil section of the Rironi–Mau Summit highway, Kenyans.co.ke reported. The Rironi–Naivasha section is due to open on 30 October.
A study found the planned 243-km Mau Summit–Malaba highway technically viable within the existing road reserve; a full feasibility study will now set costs, traffic and tolls.
